Consumer Perception and Adoption of Contactless Payments in a Selected Region of India

Abstract:

During a pivotal moment in the significant shifts in globalization, the COVID-19 pandemic struck as a public health emergency and had a significant effect on the world's economy and society. Contact sectors that need a lot of manpower have experienced severe operational issues as a result of the epidemic. In the battle against the worldwide outbreak, new contactless economic models enabled by digital technologies have evolved, such as working from home, online learning, intelligent logistics, and e-government. The new contactless services business model will supplant the old one more quickly in the near future and contribute to the advancement and transformation of economic as well as industrial structures. In this regard, the banking industry, as a supplier of financial services, must be more connected with digital information technology in order to strengthen the capacity to deliver contactless financial services along with speeding up the industry's advancement in digital technology. Therefore, the present research aims to study the consumer perception regarding the adoption of contactless payments. It also tries to identify the demographic factors influencing the adoption and non-adoption of contactless payments. Moreover, what role does social influence play in shaping consumer attitude towards contactless payment. The study is based on primary data collected with the help of Questionnaire survey method targeting respondents from Northern India belonging to different states. The results will provide useful information for those involved in the payment sector to improve user experience and promote the wider usage of contactless payment methods.
