Mental health of nurses - a review study

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je koncipována jako přehledová s prvky systematické review, jejímž cílem je vyhledat aktuální vědecké poznatky, které posuzují duševní zdraví sester ve zdravotnictví, kriticky je zhodnotit podle stanovených hodnotících kritérií a následně syntetizovat poznatky z vybraných publikací. Teoretické pozadí vychází z literární rešerše současných poznatků týkajících se duševního zdraví sester. Dále je zde zpracován přehled faktorů, které ovlivňují duševní zdraví sester. Poslední část je věnována péči o duševní zdraví, tedy duševní hygieně a technice osobního rozvoje. Výsledky z dostupných studií poukazují na to, že sestry čelí značným obtížím v oblasti duševního zdraví, s častým výskytem různých duševních poruch. Významným dotazníkem na hodnocení duševního zdraví se ve vyhledaných publikacích stal The General Health Questionnaire. Ve zkoumané oblasti duševního zdraví sester zcela jednoznačně panuje shoda v označení zásadních vlivů na celkový psychický stav. Je to soubor faktorů, mezi které se řadí stres, úzkost, deprese, syndrom vyhoření a mnoho dalších faktorů. Studie poskytují detailní poznatky o vztazích mezi pracovními podmínkami, emocionálním zatížením a duševním zdravím sester. Je zdůrazněna naléhavost situace a nutnost podrobnějšího zkoumání a implementace intervencí zaměřených na podporu duševního zdraví sester.

Abstract:

This thesis is conceived as a review thesis with elements of a systematic review, the aim of which is to search for current scientific evidence that assesses the mental health of nurses in health care, critically evaluate it according to established evaluation criteria, and then synthesize the findings from selected publications. The theoretical background is based on a literature review of current knowledge regarding mental health of nurses. A review of factors that influence nurses' mental health is also presented. The last section is devoted to mental health care, i.e. mental hygiene and personal development techniques. Results from available studies indicate that nurses face significant mental health difficulties, with a high incidence of various mental disorders. The General Health Questionnaire has emerged as a prominent questionnaire to assess mental health in the literature searched. In the area of mental health of nurses examined, there is quite a clear consensus in identifying the major influences on general mental health. It is a set of factors that include stress, anxiety, depression, burnout syndrome and many other factors. Studies provide detailed evidence of the relationships between working conditions, emotional strain and nurses' mental health. The urgency of the situation and the need for more detailed research and implementation of interventions aimed at promoting nurses' mental health are highlighted.
