Influence of tributaries on downstream bed sediment grain-sizes of the Černá Ostravice Stream

Abstract:

This thesis study the influence of tributaries on downstream bed sediment grain-sizes of the Černá Ostravice torrential stream located in the Moravsko-sliezske Beskydy mountains. The primary aim of this work is to evaluate the response of bed sediment texture in the recipient channel induced by ten tributaries of the Černá Ostravice stream and find parameters that would be able to predict this response. As the main tool, for obtaining sediment grain-size distribution was used the macrogranulometric analysis using the Wolman´s method (1954). For assesment of tributaries efect on grain-sizes of the Černá Ostravice stream, the sampling sites was located imidiatelly downstream and upstream of the conflunces and also in the intermediate reaches. Further, a sampling was conducted in tributaries themselwes. In the case of two confluences the results reveals significant coarsening of bed sediments within the main stream, while the other two were associated with downstream fining. Significant morphological efect in the form of large conflunce bar was observed in one conflunce. The results indicate, the propability that a tributary channel will alter main stream grain sizes scales with the size of the tributary relative to the main stream. Parameter, which allows the best differentiation of significant tributaries include information about unit strem power and grain sizes of the tributaries relative to the main stream. In a simplified form, it describes transport capacity and grain-size distribution which are generally two factors mainly responsible for redefination of sediment texture in the recipient channel.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá vplyvom prítokov na zrnitosť korytových sedimentov bystrinného toku Černé Ostravice v Moravsko-sliezskych Beskydách. Cieľom práce je zhodnotiť mieru odozvy spôsobenú desiatimi vybranými prítokmi a navrhnúť parametre na základe ktorých by bolo možné túto odozvu predpovedať. Ako hlavný prostriedok pre získanie informácií o zrnitostnom zložení sedimentov bola použitá makrogranulometrická analýza s využitím Wolmanovej metódy (1954). Pre zhodnotenie vplyvu prítokov na poprúdový vývoj zrnitosti Černé Ostravice boli odberné lokality umiestňované tesne nad a pod sútokom a taktiež medzi jednotlivými zaústeniami, pričom odber bol uskutočnený i v samotných prítokoch. Výsledky odhalili signifikantný nárast zrnitosti u dvoch prítokov, zatiaľ čo ďalšie dva boli rámci hlavného toku spojené s významným zjemňovaním. Výrazné morfologické ovplyvnenie v podobe veľkej sútokovej lavice bolo zaznamenané u jedného prítoku. Výsledky naznačujú, že s rastúcou plochou povodia prítoku vzhľadom k hlavnému toku rastie šanca významnej odozvy. Najlepšie sa signifikantné prítoky podarilo odlíšiť na základe pomerného parametra zahrnujúceho jednotkový výkon toku a zrnitosť, ktorý v zjednodušenej forme popisuje transportnú schopnosť prítoku spolu so zrnitostnými charakteristikami (v pomere k hlavnému toku), teda faktory u ktorých možno vo všeobecnosti predpokladať, že sa v najväčšej miere podieľajú na zásadnej odozve v zrnitosti.
