Science in art, art in science: The Third culture era

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Science in Art, Art in Science: The Third culture era focuses on contemporary art based on scientific knowledge and using new technologies and nature in the context of the new third culture, which was predicted by C. P. Snow in 1959. Its leaders are scientists and artists collaborating on joint projects. The aim of this work is to highlight historical aspects of the art leading to the creation of the third culture, and then emphasize the main features and functions of art projects in which science meets art. Through a few selected artworks I will focus on the intersection of science and art, which proves that these two areas are similar in many ways, and that their leaders are interested in shrinking the existing gap between the two disciplines.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca Veda v umení, umenie vo vede: Éra tretej kultúry skúma súčasné umenie opierajúce sa o vedecké poznatky a využívajúce nové technológie a živú prírodu v kontexte novo-vznikajúcej tretej kultúry, ktorú už v roku 1959 predpovedal C. P. Snow, a ktorej predstavitelia sú vedci a umelci kolaborujúci na spoločných projektoch. Cieľom práce je poukázať na historické aspekty v umení, ktoré viedli ku vzniku tretej kultúry a následne upozorniť na funkciu a hlavné znaky umeleckých projektov, v ktorých dochádza k stretu vedy s umením. Prostredníctvom niekoľkých vybraných umeleckých diel sa zameriam na prienik vedy s umením, ktorý je dôkazom toho, že tieto dve oblasti sú v mnohom podobné, a že ich predstavitelia majú záujem existujúcu priepasť medzi týmito dvomi obormi zmenšovať.
