Realism of H. Kissinger - theory and influence on practice of U. S. foreign policy

Abstract:

Hlavní myšlenkou této práce bylo zjištění, zda se Henry Kissinger držel svých realistických idejí z akademických let na Harvardu v období, kdy byl jedním z hlavních představitelů americké zahraniční politiky. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo popsat vývoj  realistického myšlení Kissingera. Teoretická část se skládá ze dvou kapitol. První z nich pojednává o obecném pojetí realismu a jsou zde popisovány přístupy jednotlivých autorů, především N. Machiavelliho, E. H. Carra, H. Morgenthaua a K. Waltze. Ve druhé kapitole jsou popsány Kissingerovy myšlenky o historii, státnictví a rovnováze moci. Tyto ideje sepsal ve své vlastní knize "Obnovení světového řádu". Empirická část je složena ze tří kapitol. První kapitola je věnovaná uvolňování vztahů s Čínou a  trojúhelníkové diplomacii mezi Spojenými státy, Sovětským svazem a Čínou. Druhá kapitola pojednává o Kissingerově roli při ukončení války ve Vietnamu. Ve třetí kapitole autor shledává podobnosti v Kissingerových myšlenkách z akademického období a období vykonávání funkcí ve vrcholné politice. Z těchto podobností vyplývá fakt, že se Kissinger  svými akademickými myšlenkami řídil i v době, kdy byl jednou z hlavních tváří zahraniční politiky Spojených států.

Abstract:

The main objective of this bachelor thesis was to find out if Henry Kissinger followed his realistic ideas from his academic years in high politics in Seventies. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to describe the evolution of his realistic thinking. There are two chapters in the theoretical part. First of them is about theoretical basis of realistic in the field of international relations. In the case of realism is the main attention paid to the theories of N. Machiavelli, E. H. Carr, H. Morgenthau and K. Waltz. In the second chapter of this part there are decribed Kissinger's ídeas about history, statesmanship and balance of power. Especially there is a description of his ideas and opinions from Kissinger's book "A World Restored". The empirical part is devided into three chapters. In the first chapter there is decribed improving relations between the United States and China. This chapter is also focused on triangular diplomacy between the United States, China and the Soviet Union. In the second chapter there is described Kissinger's role during the ending Vietnam War. In the third chapter the author finds similarities in Kissinger's thoughts from his academic period and period of his performance in high politics. Kissinger's ideas and opinions from his academic years are similar like those in high politics. Kissinger was directed by his thoughts from his academic years when he was one of the main persons of foreign policy of the United States in Seventies.
