Freddie Mercury and his Legacy

Abstract:

This work deals with musical and humanitarian legacy of Freddie Mercury, a lead singer of a rock band called Queen, who died on 24th November 1991 on AIDS. As a tribute to him The Mercury Phoenix Trust was founded to fund the fight against AIDS. Through the use of Freddie Mercury's name The Mercury Phoenix Trust helps milions people worldwide. Beginning of the thesis describes Mercury's early life on Zanzibar, studies in Bombay and his life in London. Beginning and progress of Queen's career and analysis of Queen's song which describes Mercury's feelings before he died is content of a next chapter. The last chapter of the thesis is about The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness and The Mercury Phoenix Trust. A specific example of Freddie's Mercury legacy is evident on the Republic of Malawi where AIDS awareness and education programme financed by The Mercury Phoenix Trust led to rapid decrease of a number of children infected by AIDS. His legacy through his name helps people all around the world to fight against AIDS.

Abstract:

Tato práce je věnována studiu hudebniho a charitativního odkazu zpěváka skupiny Queen, Freddie Mercuryho, který zemřel dne 24. listopadu 1991 na AIDS. Na jeho počest byla založena nadace The Mercury Phoenix Trust, která financuje boj proti AIDS a prostřednictvím jména Freddie Mercury pomáhá milionům lidí po celém světě v boji proti této zákeřné nemoci. Studie se věnuje Mercuryho dětství, které strávil na Zanzibaru, Bombaji a v Londýně. Další část práce se zabývá historií skupiny Queen, která proslavila Mercuryho jméno a zasloužila se o založení nadace pro boj proti AIDS nazvané The Mercury Phoenix Trust. Konkrétní Mercuryho charitativní odkaz je zřejmý na snižení počtu dětí nakažených AIDS v Republice Malawi po zavedení vzdělávacího programu o AIDS do škol, který je financovaný ze zdrojů The Mercury Phoenix Trust.
