Echoes of Celtic culture in contemporary culture and art

Abstract:

Tematem pracy magisterskiej jest przedstawienie współczesnych elementów kultury, będących echami kultury celtyckiej. Jej celem jest odczarowanie współczesnej wizji na świat Celtów, za pomocą przedstawionych kontekstów historycznych i wizualnych. Praca ta ma usystematyzować wiedzę czytelnika w zakresie poprawnego rozpoznawania znamion kultury plemion i pomóc mu się krytycznie odnosić do współczesnego używania przymiotnika "celtyckie" Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym z nich znajduje się analiza historii Celtów oraz najważniejszych aspektów ich kultury - mitologii, sztuki, obyczajów. Przedstawiam w nim sposoby klasyfikacji ludów celtyckich oraz problematyki wynikającej z niespójności tez stawianych przez badaczy. Skupiłam się na pozostawionych przez Celtów artefaktach, pomagających zrozumieć wygląd oraz działanie społeczeństwa. W tej części pracy został także przedstawiony panteon najbardziej rozpoznawalnych bóstw oraz opis istot magicznych, uznawanych za celtyckie. Rozdział drugi skupia się na współczesnej wizji świata Celtów. Znajduje się w nim analiza, wskazująca przyczyny przekłamanego obrazu plemion. Opisuje spojrzenie świadomości masowej na Celtów w zależności od okresu historycznego i występujących w nim wydarzeń, aż do czasów współczesnych. W tym rozdziale znajduje się też omówienie aktualnie istniejących elementów, określanych jako celtyckie - języka, muzyki oraz przykładowych dzieł kinematografii. Ostatnia część pracy poświęcona jest analizie procesu powstawania pracy artystycznej. Projekt obejmuje wykonanie sześciu figur szachowych, środowiska, w którym zostaną one zaprezentowane oraz wykonanie sześciu plakatów. Przestrzeń obrazująca pracę została wykonana za pomocą techniki 3D i opiera się na wiedzy zdobytej podczas pisania pracy pisemnej.

Abstract:

The subject of the master's thesis is the presentation of contemporary elements of culture that are echoes of Celtic culture. It aims to disenchant the contemporary vision of the world of Celts, using the presented historical and visual contexts. This work is to systematize the reader's knowledge of the correct recognition of tribal culture signs and help him to be critical of the contemporary use of the adjective "Celtic" The work has been divided into three chapters. The first one analyzes the history of the Celts and the most important aspects of their culture - mythology, art and customs. In it, I present the methods of classifying Celtic peoples and the problems resulting from the inconsistency of theses put forward by researchers. I focused on the artefacts left behind by the Celts to help understand the appearance and operation of society. This part of the work also presents a pantheon of the most recognizable deities and a description of magical creatures considered to be Celtic. The second chapter focuses on the contemporary vision of the Celtic world. There is an analysis that shows the reasons for the distorted image of the tribes. It describes the view of mass consciousness on Celts depending on the historical period and events occurring in it, up to the present day. This chapter also covers the currently existing Celtic elements - language, music, and examples of cinematographic works. The last part of the work is devoted to the analysis of the process of creating an artistic work. The project includes the production of six chess pieces, the environment in which they will be presented and the production of six posters. The space depicting the work was made using the 3D technique and is based on the knowledge gained while writing a written work.
