Health prevention and veterinary care in calf rearing

Abstract:

Zdravotní prevence a veterinární péče v odchovu telat hrají důležitou roli v zajištění optimálního zdravotního stavu a produktivity budoucího stáda. Tato práce se zabývá kombinací literární rešerše s praktickým přístupem k problematice odchovu telat daného družstva. Literární část popisuje přehled správného ošetření telete již po porodu, včasné napojení kvalitním mlezivem, odchov telat, správnou zoohygienu a zdůrazňuje nejčastější onemocnění telat, jako jsou průjmy, respirační infekce, zánět pupku a tympanie. Popisují se zde metody prevence, jako jsou například vakcinace, správná výživa a hygienická opatření. Praktická část vychází z analýzy konkrétního podniku, jakým způsobem jsou telata odchovávána a jaké onemocnění se na této farmě nejčastěji vyskytuje. Tato část poskytuje pohled na praktické využití zásad zdravotní prevence a veterinární péče ve skutečném odchovu telat, popisuje zavedené preventivní opatření a případné nedostatky v implementaci prevence a managementu zdravotních problémů u telat. Lze konstatovat, že je v daném podniku telatům poskytnuta dostatečná péče v jejich odchovu, a nemocná telata se u nich vyskytují jen řídce.

Abstract:

Health prevention and veterinary care in calf rearing play an important role in ensuring optimal health and productivity of the future herd. This paper combines a literature search with a practical approach to the problem of rearing calves in a given cooperative. The literature section describes an overview of the correct treatment of the calf after birth, timely watering with quality colostrum, rearing of calves, proper animal hygiene and highlights the most common diseases of calves such as diarrhoea, respiratory infections, umbilical inflammation and tympany. Prevention methods such as vaccination, proper nutrition and hygiene measures are described. The practical part is based on an analysis of a particular farm, how calves are reared and what diseases are most common on that farm. This section provides an insight into the practical application of the principles of health prevention and veterinary care in the actual rearing of calves, describing the preventive measures in place and any shortcomings in the implementation of prevention and management of health problems in calves. It can be concluded that the calves on the farm receive sufficient care in their rearing, and sick calves are rare.
