The Amazon Frieze from the Mausoleion at Halicarnassus

Abstract:

Mausóleion v Halikarnássu je jedním ze sedmi divů antického světa. Nádherná hrobka kárijského satrapy Mausóla se proslavila především svojí velikostí a překrásnou sochařskou výzdobou. Ve své práci jsem nejprve uvedla základní informace o Mausólovi, jeho hrobce, sochařích a výzdobě Mausóleia. V hlavní části jsem se věnovala podrobnému popisu jednotlivých desek vlysu s Amazonomachií, který je v dnešní době umístěný v Britském muzeu. Pokusila jsem se popsat jednotlivé postavy a jejich vzájemné vztahy, pozice a natočení těla. Tímto popisem jsem chtěla ukázat řeč těla čtvrtého století před naším letopočtem.

Abstract:

The Mausoleion at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was the marvellous tomb of carian satrap Mausolos. The tomb became famous mainly for its monumentality and beautiful sculptural decoration. At first I referred to the basic information about Mausolos, his tomb, sculptors and decoration of the Mausoleion. In the main part of the work I was concentrated on the detail description of the single slabs of the Amazon frieze, which is presently placed in the British Museum. I attempted to depict individual figures and animals in their mutual relations. Their poses and turning of bodies. In this description I wanted to display the body language in the 4th century BC.
