A Poetry of a Spoken Word: From a Rhapsod to Slammer

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce "Poezie mluveného slova: od rapsóda k slamerovi" si dává za úkol systematicky představit poezii mluveného slova. V první části se zabývá jejím širším pojetím, které zahrnuje jakoukoliv orální formu poezie napříč stoletími. Chronologicky od antických soutěží rapsódů přes středověké písně trubadúrů, veřejná čtení a jazzovou poezii až k soudobému rapu představuje konkrétní podoby, kterých může mluvená poezie nabýt. V části druhé se věnuje pojetí poezie mluveného slova jako konkrétního subžánru současné poezie, který se označuje i pojmem "poetry slam" neboli česky slamová poezie. S přihlédnutím ke kategoriím intonace, rytmu, performance, improvizace či stylu se snaží odhalit strukturu vlastní tomuto poetickému žánru. Za pomoci strukturalistických metod Jana Mukařovského, Romana Jakobsona a Františka Mika odhaluje a popisuje nejčastěji užívané estetické a jazykové figury v české slamové poezii. Hlavním cílem práce je z perspektivy strukturalistické estetiky přispět ke studiu současné poezie mluveného slova, které se prozatím odehrává spíše na poli sociologie nebo kulturních studií.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "Spoken-Word Poetry: from Rhapsode to Slam Poet" seeks to systematically introduce the phenomenon of spoken-word poetry. In the first part, it considers spoken-word poetry in its broader sense, including all oral forms of poetry throughout the centuries. Chronologically, from ancient competitions of rhapsodes, through medieval songs of troubadours, public readings, jazz poetry, until contemporary rap, it introduces the exact forms in which spoken-word poetry can manifest itself. In the second part, it understands spoken-word poetry as a subgenre of contemporary poetry, which is also interchangeably known by the name of "poetry slam". Through consideration of categories of intonation, rhythm, performance, improvisation and style, it tries to undercover the structure inherent to this specific poetic genre. With the help of structuralist methods of Jan Mukařovský, Roman Jakobson and František Miko, it finds and describes the most frequently used aesthetic and verbal aspects in Czech poetry slam. The main goal of the thesis is to broaden the study of contemporary spoken-word poetry with the perspective of structuralist aesthetics, as until now, it has been predominantly a subject of research for fields such as sociology and cultural studies.
