Turkey and Europe: Obstacles of Turkey on its Way to the United Europe and European Perspective of Turkey

Abstract:

Vztah Turecka a EHS/ES/EU je velice složitý a má výrazná specifika. V roce 1999 na summitu v Helsinkách bylo Turecko označeno za kandidáta na členství v EU, což znamená, že naplnilo kodaňská kritéria (složku politickou). Nicméně naplnění kodaňských kritérií neznamenalo přímou cestou Turecka do sjednocené Evropy. Turecko musí řešit i další překážky, které nejsou obsaženy v kodaňských kritériích, ale přesto hrají klíčovou roli v otázce členství Turecka v EU (např. kyperský problém, vztah Turecko versus Řecko, vztah Turecko versus Německo, vztah Turecko versus Francie, vztah Turecko versus Arménie, Turecko a politický islám, Turecko a NATO). Tato historická práce je pokusem o shrnutí hlavních překážek Turecka na cestě do sjednocené Evropy (kodaňská kritéria a jejich naplňování, ostatní překážky Turecka na cestě do sjednocené Evropy) a jejich následnou analýzu s ohledem na historický kontext událostí a interpretaci pramenů. Práce se snaží s ohledem na historický kontext událostí najít hlavní překážky Turecka na cestě do sjednocené Evropy a zodpovědět jejich relevantnost k oficiálním podmínkám členství v EU.

Abstract:

Relation of Turkey and EEC/EC/EU is really complicated and has very expressive specifics. In the year 1999 during the Helsinky Summit Turkey was adressed to be an oficial Candidate for Future EU Membership. It means, Turkey has fulfiled Copenhagen Criteria (Political Part).Nevertheless the fulfilment of Copenhagen Criteria has not meant direct way of Turkey to the United Europe. Turkey has to solve other obstacles , which are not included in Copenhagen Criteria, but still they have key- role in the question of Turkish membership in EU (for example: Cyprus problem, Turkey and Greece, Turkey and Germany, Turkey and France, Turkey and Armenia, Turkey and Political Islam, Turkey and NATO). This historical work is an attempt of the summary of important obstacles of Turkey on its way to the United Europe (Copenhagen Criteria and their fulfilment, other obstacles of Turkey on its way to the United Europe) and their analyse regarding historical context of the events and interpretation of the sources.The work pursues to find regarding the historical context of the events the main obstacles of Turkey on its way to the United Europe and to answer their relevancy to oficial condition of the membership in EU.
