Honour killings from the perspective of feminism and multiculturalism

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na problematiku vražd ze cti. Hlavním cílem práce je podívat se na vraždy ze cti z různých úhlů pohledu, a vyzdvihnout otázku cti, která je při uvažování o tomto tématu nepostradatelná. Hlavními myšlenkovými rámci, přes které je v této práci na vraždy ze cti pohlíženo, je v první řadě feminismus, který definuje vraždy ze cti jako akt genderově podmíněného násilí. Je zde definováno genderově podmíněné násilí a pro lepší představu o problematice i samotný pojem násilí. Dále jsou zde zmíněny teorie multikulturalismu, multikulturalismus má několik definicí, které se od sebe více či méně liší, proto jsou zde uvedeny definice od více autorů/autorek, kteří se tomuto tématu přednostně věnují. Avšak v případě vražd ze cti nám multikulturalismus žádné pojednání či teorii, která by vraždy ze cti vysvětlovala, nepřináší. Do práce je proto zahrnuta i kritika multikulturalismu, která zahrnuje hlavně absenci názoru na vraždy ze cti. Hlavním jevem, vysvětlujícím vraždy ze cti je otázka cti, která hraje velmi významnou roli při praktikování tohoto kulturního zvyku. Práce se také okrajově věnuje vlivu multikulturalismu na politickou situaci vybraných evropských států. V kapitole věnující se feministické kritice multikulturalismu práce přináší nový pohled na vzájemnou provázanost těchto dvou směrů. V závěru práce, je umístěna kapitola o multikulturním feminismu, který slučuje oba myšlenkové rámce, které jsou v práci použity.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on issue of honor killings. The main goal of the thesis is to look at honor killings from different views and highlight the question of the honor which is indispensable for understanding the topic. The main conceptual frameworks which help us to look at the topic by different views, is in the first place feminism. Feminism, define honor killings as an act of gender based violence. In the thesis there are definitions of gender based violence and also just concept of violence. Other view is represented by theories of multiculturalism which have several definitions and it depends on the author/authoress. But there are no multicultural theories that are dealing with the honor killings. Because of that there is a critique of multiculturalism included which is mainly about absence of opinion on the honor killings. Phenomenon which explains the honor killings is question of honor. Honor plays an important role in practising this cultural habit. Thesis is marginally focused on the influence of multiculturalism to the political situations of selected European countries. In the chapter pursued to the feminist critique of multiculturalism, thesis show us the new view of mutual coherence of this two concepts. At the end of this thesis there is a chapter about multicultural feminism which brings together both conceptual frameworks.
