Accounting and tax treatment of financial derivatives

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o finančních derivátech v teoretické a praktické rovině. V rovině teoretické zkoumá převážně účetní aspekty derivátů, a to jak z pohledu samotného účtování, tak i vykazování v účetní závěrce, s rozlišením na deriváty sjednané za účelem obchodování nebo zajištění. Dále se práce zabývá daňovými konsekvencemi derivátů v kontextu daně z příjmů právnických osob a daně z přidané hodnoty. V rovině praktické se práce zaměřuje na posouzení správnosti vykazování derivátů v účetních závěrkách společností, které byly pro tento účel identifikovány pomocí databáze Amadeus, dle specifických kritérií. Tato kritéria byla stanovena s cílem dosažení co nejvyšší pravděpodobnosti výskytu derivátů v účetních závěrkách analyzovaných společností.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with financial derivatives on a theoretical and practical level. On the theoretical level, it focuses mainly on the accounting aspects of derivatives from the perspective of posting itself, as well as disclosing in the statutory financial statements, while distinguishing between derivatives concluded for trading and hedging purposes. Further, the thesis analyses tax consequences of derivatives in the context of the corporate income tax and value added tax. On the practical level, the thesis aims to assess whether derivatives are correctly disclosed in the statutory financial statements of companies, which have been identified using the Amadeus database, based on specific criteria. These criteria have been set with the aim of achieving the highest probability of disclosure of derivatives in the statutory financial statements of the analyzed companies.
