Comparison of selected English and Czech coursebooks of English at the levels A1 to A2 of CEFRL - approaches to language presentation and practice

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá výběrem vhodné anglické učebnice pro výuku dospělých studentů a srovnáním několika vybraných učebnic angličtiny. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části jsem čerpala z několika odborných publikací, které se alespoň z části či celkově věnují učebnicím. V teoretické části jsem se zaměřila na specifické potřeby dospělých studentů, ale také na to, jaké funkce učebnice mají. Snažila jsem se zde podat přehled o tom, co vše by měla správná učebnice obsahovat a jak by v ní mělo být učivo prezentováno. Dále jsem se v této práci pokusila popsat podle čeho bychom měli učebnici vybírat, protože díky velkému množství v dnešní době dostupných učebnic, není snadné zvolit právě takovou učebnici, která by vyhovovala všem našim požadavkům. Při výběru učebnice je proto nutné zohlednit několik důležitých kritérií, která jsou popsána právě v části teoretické. Součástí užívání učebnice je rovněž její hodnocení a tomuto tématu ve své práci věnuji také pozornost. V části praktické jsem se snažila podat stručnou charakteristiku vybraných učebnic angličtiny a srovnat tyto učebnice na základě několika hlavních jazykových oblastí. Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with selection of an appropriate English coursebook for teaching adult learners and with comparison of selected English coursebooks. This thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, I drew from a number of expert publications which at least in part or as a whole pay attention to coursebooks. In the theoretical part, I focused on specific needs of adult learners but also on the roles of coursebooks. I tried to give an overview of all that an appropriate book should contain and how subject matter should be presented in the book. I also tried to describe the criteria according to which we should choose the coursebook, because due to a number of available coursebooks in these days, it is not easy to choose the coursebook which would meet all our requirements. When we select a coursebook it is necessary to consider several important criteria that are described in the theoretical part. Coursebook evaluation is also an important part in the process of using a coursebook and I also pay an attention to this theme in my bachelor thesis. In the practical part, I tried to give a brief description of selected English coursebooks and compare these coursebooks on the basis of several main language areas.
