Population development of the European beaver in floodplain forests of the Morava River basin

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá dlouhodobým vývojem populací bobra v několika evropsky významných lokalitách v povodí Moravy. První část práce je zaměřena na literární rešerši shrnující základní poznatky o historickém osídlení Moravy bobrem, vývoji populace a metodách používaných při monitoringu tohoto druhu. Praktická část je zaměřena na samotném terénním monitoringu v posledních letech a jejich srovnání se získanými daty od AOPK ČR od roku 2006. Výsledky práce naznačují, že populace bobra na všech lokalitách roste, přičemž její rychlost se liší dle délky osídlení. Práce shrnuje škody na dřevinách, jejich průměry a vzdálenost od vodních toků. Výsledky potvrzují preferenci vrb a topolů, ale také významné škody na dubových porostech.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the long-term development of beaver populations in several European sites in the Morava River basin. The first part of the thesis is focused on a literature search summarizing the basic knowledge about the historical settlement of the Morava beaver, the growth of the population and the methods used in monitoring this species. The practical part is focused on the field monitoring in recent years and their comparison with the data obtained from the AOPK ČR since 2006. The results of the work indicate that the beaver population is increasing at all sites, with the rate varying according to the length of the settlement. The work summarizes the damage to trees , their diameters and distance from watercourses. The results confirm a preference for willows and poplars, but also significant damage to oak stands.
