Financial literacy – analysis, determinants and development in a special segment of society (with help of survey)

Abstract:

Finanční gramotnost je již delší dobu ve středu pozornosti odborníků, médií a politického establishmentu. Tato skutečnost není ryze ekonomickou, ale spíše sociální, jelikož nedostatek finančního vzdělání a s tím spojená chybná finanční rozhodnutí mohou mít závažné následky jak pro jednotlivce, tak i celkové sociální skupiny. Cílem této práce je zjistit aktuální úroveň finanční gramotnosti vybraného segmentu společnosti a pokus o zjištění faktorů, jež determinují tuto úroveň. Teoretická část práce shrnuje dosud existující názory na pojetí a dimenze finanční gramotnosti a vysvětluje potenciální sociální a ekonomické problémy plynoucí z jejího nedostatku. Následně budou stručně uvedeny přístupy k měření finanční gramotnosti a na základě dosud provedených výzkumů zhodnocen její předchozí vývoj v České republice. Metoda zpracování tématu bude založena na multidimenzionálním dotazníku věnovaný vybraným aspektům finanční gramotnosti českých občanů. Ze zpracování výsledků budou dále identifikovány faktory, jež ovlivňují úroveň a rozličné stránky finanční gramotnosti. Na závěr budou vyhodnoceny potenciální implikace plynoucí z dosažených výsledků.

Abstract:

Financial literacy has long been the focus of experts, the media and the political establishment. This is not purely economic, but rather social, as a lack of financial education and the associated wrong financial decisions can have serious consequences for both individuals and overall social groups. The aim of this work is to determine the current level of financial literacy of a selected segment of the company and an attempt to determine the factors that determine this level. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the existing views on the concept and dimensions of financial literacy and explains the potential social and economic problems arising from its lack. Subsequently, the approaches to measuring financial literacy will be briefly presented and its previous development in the Czech Republic will be evaluated on the basis of research carried out so far. The method of elaboration of the topic will be based on a multidimensional questionnaire devoted to selected aspects of financial literacy of Czech citizens. The processing of the results will further identify the factors that affect the level and various aspects of financial literacy. Finally, the potential implications of the results will be evaluated.
