The impact of sanctions on mutual trade between Russia and EU countries

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce analyzuje vliv uvalených v roce 2014 hospodářských sankcí ze strany zemí EU na Rusko z důvodu anexi Ruskem původně ukrajinského poloostrova Krym. Podstatu analýzy tvoří zkoumaní dopadu sankcí na ekonomiku Ruska, který se odráží ve vývoji základních makroekonomických ukazatelů od roku uvalení sankcí do současností, a dopadu na obchod obou stran v různých odvětvích (obchod s ropou a plynem, export/import potravin, obranný průmysl a finanční sektor). Hlavním cílem práce je potvrdit nebo vyvrátit hypotézu, že sankce měly negativní dopad na obchod obou stran a vedly ke substituci obchodních vztahů pomoci jiných zemí. Hlavním přínosem práce je sledování souvislostí pomoci statistických metod a použití nejaktuálnějších ruských, evropských a mezinárodních statistik.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis analyses the impact of economic sanctions imposed by EU countries on Russia in 2014 due to annexation of the Crimea peninsula by Russia. The core of the analysis is in examination of the impact of sanctions on Russia's economy, reflected by the development of key macroeconomic indicators since the year of the imposition of sanctions to the present, and the impact on trade between the parties in different sectors (oil and gas trade, food export / import, defense industry and financial sector). The main aim of the thesis is to confirm or refuse the hypothesis that sanctions had a negative impact on the trade of both parties and led to the substitution of trade relations by other countries. The main contribution of this diploma thesis is the possibility to follow the context through statistical methods and the use of the latest Russian, European and international statistics.
