Hunting management of the European beaver (Castor fiber) in the fishing area of Pohořelice

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá loveckým managementem bobra v rybářské oblasti Pohořelice, kde je vydaná dlouhodobá legislativní výjimka k lovu chráněného druhu. V první části je práce zaměřena na literární rešerši zahrnující obecné kapitoly o biologii a ekologii bobra, legislativní stránku a jeho management. V praktické části jsou vyhodnocená data z let 2018 – 2022 o lovu, ale také data z terénního monitoringu v roce 2023, které popisují prostorovou distribuci bobrů v oblasti. Práce zahrnuje údaje o počtech a lokalizaci úlovků, období a čase ulovení, populační charakteristiky a také údaje o výskytu bobrů a odhadu početnosti po pětiletém lovu. Výsledky naznačují, že dlouhodobý lov má efekt na vytváření teritorií bobrů na lokalitě a snižuje tak škody způsobené zejména na hrázích rybníků.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the hunting management of beaver in the Pohořelice fishing area, where a long-term legislative exemption to hunt the protected species has been issued. In the first part, the thesis focuses on a literature search including general chapters on the biology and ecology of beaver, the legislative aspect and its management. The practical part evaluates data from 2018-2022 on hunting, as well as data from field monitoring in 2023, describing the spatial distribution of beavers in the area. The work includes data on numbers and location of captures, period and time of capture, population characteristics, as well as data on beaver abundance and abundance estimates after five years of hunting. The results suggest that long-term hunting has an effect on beaver territory establishment in the area, reducing the damage caused, particularly to fishpond dams.
