Film Adaptations of Selected Short Stories by Bohumil Hrabal

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problémem filmových adaptací povídek Bohumila Hrabala z filmového souboru Perličky na dně. Na základě stanovených termínů a teoretických postupů adaptace, především analogie vymezené Kamillou Elliottovou, se zaměřuje na komparaci filmu a jeho literární předlohy. Věnuje se dílčím prvkům literárních povídek a jejich možností přenosu do filmu. Nehodnotí film z hlediska věrnosti literární předlohy, ale porovnává jednotlivé složky literárního textu, jejich vypuštění či změnu ve filmovém médiu. Vyhodnocením těchto aspektů sleduje způsob, jak režiséři ztvárňují Hrabalovu poetiku ve filmu. Srovnává možnosti transformace literárního díla do filmu pomocí specifických prostředků (hudba, střih atd.).

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with a problem of film adaptations of short stories by Bohumil Hrabal, contained in a film collection called Perličky na dně (The Pearls at the Deep). On the basis of the given terminology and the theory of the adaptation, especially an analogy by Kamilla Elliott, it focuses on the comparison of the film and the literature draft. It targets the sectional literature features and its possibility to transfer them into the film. It does not compare the film according to its fidelity to the literature draft, but it confronts the literature components, which are added and changed into the film medium. It follows the way of capturing Hrabal’s poetics in the film. It compares the potentiality of the literature transformation into the film by special means (music, editing etc.).
