Petrological study of limestones of the Macocha Formation at Březina-Studánky, Czech Republic

Abstract:

In the bachelor's thesis, petrology of a limestone outcrop of the Vilémovice Limestone of the Mokrá cycle which belongs to the Macocha Formation was studied. 25 limestone layers of the profile were documented; lower layers were identified as calcisiltites and higher layers as calciarenites. In the field work part of the thesis, 8 samples were taken from which the thin sections were made. Contained allochems were identified and described by means of optical microscopy and their percentage in the thin sections was calculated by the point counting method. Peloids, intraclasts and calcimicrobes renalcids have been identified from non-skeletal allochems. Skeletal allochems include fragments of stromatopores, brachiopods, crinoids, corals and ostracodes, but foraminifera, algae and palaeomicrocodium are also present. Limestone microfacies were determined according to the Dunham classification. Bioclastic and intraclastic packstone, bioclastic rudstone, bioclastic grainstone, bioclastic floatstone and bioclastic wackestone were identified. The matrix of microfacies ranges from micrite to microsparite, but cement is also present in the higher layers. The palaeoenvironment was interpreted by comparing microfacies from the studied locality with standard microfacies according to Flügel (1982), considering the occurrence of stromatopores in the Belgian Frasnian carbonate platform. Following the determination of Wilson's (1975) facial zones, the paleoenvironment was identified as an open platform shelf lagoon.

Abstract:

V bakalárskej práci bol petrologicky spracovaný vápencový odkryv vilémovických vápencov mokerského cyklu, patriaceho do macošského súvrstvia (devon, vrchný frasn). Na profile bolo zdokumentovaných 25 vrstiev, nižšie vrstvy boli identifikované ako kalcisiltit, vyššie vrstvy ako kalciarenit. V rámci terénnej práce bolo odobratých 8 vzoriek, z ktorých boli vyhotovené výbrusy. V nich boli pomocou optickej mikroskopie identifikované a popísané obsiahnuté alochemy, ktorých percentuálne zastúpenie bolo vypočítané metódou point counting. Z neskeletálnych alochemov boli zistené peloidy, intraklasty a kalcimikróby renalcidi. Skeletálne alochemy zahrňujú fragmenty stromatopor, brachiopodov, crinoideí, koralov a ostrakodov, prítomné sú však aj foraminifery, riasy a palaeomicrocodium. Mikrofácie horniny boli určené podľa Dunhamovej klasifikácie. Zistené boli typy bioklastický a intraklastický packstone, bioklastický rudstone, bioklastický grainstone, bioklastický floatstone a bioklastický wackestone. Základná hmota mikrofácií sa pohybuje od mikritu po mikrosparit, vo vyšších vrstvách je prítomný aj cement. Paleoprostredie bolo interpretované porovnaním mikrofácií zo študovanej lokality so štandardnými mikrofáciami podľa Flügela (1982) s prihliadnutím na výskyt stromatopor podľa modelu frasnskej karbonátovej platformy z Belgicka. Po určení Wilsonových (1975) faciálních zón bolo paleoprostredie identifikované jako šelfová laguna otvorenej platformy.
