Preferential behaviour of montbeliard dairy cow

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci bylo zkoumáno preferenční chování dojnic. Jsou zde pospány ideální podmínky prostředí pro chov skotu a pro jejich welfare s cílem zkoumat jejich preference při výběru boxu. Pozorování praktické části práce proběhlo v areálu ZD Rosice u Chrasti, kde se nachází dvě stáje s plemenem montbeliard. Byly pozorovány dojnice na druhé a vyšší laktaci, a to od ledna do prosince roku 2023. Byla sledována teplota uvnitř stáje, poloha dojnic a jejich aktivita v boxech. Tato data byla následně vyhodnocena za účelem pochopení chování dojnic. Bylo zjištěno, že dojnice projevují preferenční chování a že jsou značné rozdíly co se týče obsazenosti boxových řad. Z mého pozorování vyplynulo, že nejpreferovanější boxovou řadou byla první řada, nacházející se nejblíže ke krmnému žlabu, následovaná řadou druhou a nejméně obsazovanou třetí řadou. Z celkového počtu zaznamenaných dojnic v boxu jich 85,97 % leželo a nejvíce zastoupenou aktivitou bylo přežvykování. Dojnice také vykazovaly statistickou preferenci řady, a to až v 51 % případů, kdy 33,7 % bylo vysoce statisticky průkazných a 17,44 % statisticky průkazných. Zbytek dojnic nevykazoval statistickou průkaznost, ačkoliv byla patrná preference jedné z řad. Ovlivněné to bylo zejména ročním obdobím a stájovou teplotou.

Abstract:

In the bachelor thesis the preference behaviour of dairy cows was investigated. The ideal environmental conditions for cattle rearing and welfare are presented in order to investigate their preferences in the choice of box. The observation of the practical part of the thesis was carried out in the premises of the Rosice u Chrasti dairy farm, where there are two stables with the montbeliard breed. Dairy cows on their second to third lactation were observed from January to December 2023. The temperature inside the stalls, the position of the cows and their activity in the stalls were monitored. These data were then evaluated to understand the behaviour of the dairy cows. It was found that dairy cows show preferential behaviour and there is considerable variation in terms of occupancy of box rows. My observations showed that the most preferred box row was the first row closest to the feed trough, followed by the second row and the least occupied third row. Of the total number of cows observed in the box, 85,97 % were lying down and rumination was the most represented activity. Dairy cows also showed statistical preference for the row, up to 51 % of the time, with 33,7 % being highly statistically significant and 17,44 % statistically significant. The rest of the dairy cows did not show statistical significance although preference for one of the rows was evident. This was mainly influenced by the season and stable temperature.
