Global trade in cut roses from Kenya: adaptation and validation of teaching materials in Geography lessons

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je adaptovat, ověřit v praxi a následně na základě výzkumných zjištění upravit výukové materiály na téma globální obchod s řezanými růžemi z Keni. Materiály jsou vytvořené podle metodiky pro učitele od Louise Ellisové (2009). V teoretické části práce je uvedena základní terminologie vztahující se ke Globálnímu rozvojovému vzdělávání a problematice trhu s řezanými růžemi. V aplikační části práce je vymezen akční výzkum a podrobný popis jednotlivých fází výzkumu, jejichž součástí je analýza výukových aktivit a materiálů, které byly ověřované během výuky na základní škole. Výzkumný soubor tvořila skupina 14 žáků osmého ročníku. Jako nejčastější nedostatek výukových materiálů byla po analýze dat identifikována chybějící opora v podobě pracovního listu a nejednoznačná formulace zadání. Kapitola zjištění a výsledky shrnuje veškeré nedostatky, které byly zohledněny při následné úpravě výukových materiálů.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to adapt, validate in practice, and then modify educational materials on the global trade in cut roses from Kenya, based on the research findings. The materials are developed according to a methodology for teachers by Louise Ellis (2009). The theoretical part of the thesis introduces basic terminology related to Global Development Education and examines various aspects of the global cut flower-rose market. In the application part, action research is outlined, providing a detailed description of the phases, including an analysis of the learning activities and materials that were tested during primary school teaching. The research sample comprised a group of 14 eighth-grade students. The analysis revealed that some learning activities lacked worksheets, and certain instructional tasks were found to be vaguely formulated. The findings and results chapter comprehensively summarizes all the shortcomings that were addressed in the subsequent adjustments to the teaching materials, based on the research findings.
