The relationship between meaning of life and locus of control

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to explore the relationship between the types of locus of control and the degree of personal fulfilment in one´s existence. The research sample consisted of 118 people at total, including 94 university students and 24 employees. The IPC LOC Scale and the Existence Scale were used to assess the type locus of control and the degree of personal fulfilment in one´s existence. There was a moderate positive correlation between internal locus of control and the degree of personal fulfilment in one´s existence and moderate negative correlation between external types of locus of control (external loc – powerful others & external loc chance) and the degree of personal fulfilment in one´s existence. The group of internals scored in Existence Scale significantly higher than the groups of external types of locus of control. There was no significant difference between external types of externality in the score of the Existence Scale. The expectation that the relationship between internal locus of control type and the Existence Scale would be positive was supported. The second expectation that the internal locus of control group would score in the Existence Scale higher than external types of locus of control was supported. The third expectation that the external locus of control – powerful others group would score in the Existence Scale higher than external locus of control – chance group was not supported.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce bolo testovať vzťah medzi typmi locus of control a duchovnými schopnosťami človeka. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 118 osôb, z toho 94 univerzitných študentov a 24 pracujúcich osôb. Pre zistenie umiestnenia respondentov na škále locus of control bol administrovaný dotazník IPC LOC Scale a pre zistenie úrovne rozvinutia duchovných schopností respondentov bol administrovaný dotazník Existence Scale. Bola zistená významná pozitívna korelácia medzi interným locus of control a úrovňou rozvinutia duchovných schopností. Ďalej bola zistená významná negatívna korelácia medzi externými typmi LOC a úrovňou rozvinutia duchovných schopností. Skupina internalistov dosahovala v Existence Scale významne vyššie výsledky ako dva typy externalistov. Medzi výkonmi externalistov nebol zistený žiaden významný rozdiel. Predpoklad, že medzi internalitou a úrovňou duchovných schopností existuje pozitívna významná korelácia bol podporený. Predpoklad, že skupina internalistov bude v dotazníku Existence Scale dosahovať vyššie výsledky ako skupiny externalistov bol tiež podporený. Nepodarilo sa podporiť predpoklad, že skupina externalistov, ktorí veria, že udalosti v ich živote sú ovplyvňované predovšetkým mocnými druhými bude dosahovať v Existence Scale vyššie skóre, ako skupina externalistov, ktorí veria, že udalosti v ich živote sú ovplyvňované predovšetkým náhodou.
