Abstract:

Německé iredentistické hnutí na území bývalého Československa bylo vždy vcelku okrajovým tématem historických publikací. Většina současných publikací se věnuje jen poslední etapě sudetské iredenty, a to německému nacionálnímu hnutí v období první Československé republiky, Německé říše a v krátké době po II. světové válce. Tato práce je zaměřena na problematiku německé národní emancipace v českých zemích v období 1848 až 1918. Toto období vyvrcholilo vytvořením německého národního státu v Monarchii, jehož součástí byly i čtyři správní provincie na území Čech, Moravy a Slezska na podzim 1918. Úvodní kapitoly se zabývají národním hnutím v českých zemích od roku 1848 do 1. světové války. Dále je zde detailněji rozpracováno období německé iredenty od rozpadu Rakouska-Uherska, vzniku německých zemí Deutschböhmen a Sudetenland až po jejich obsazení československým vojskem. Na příkladu nacionálního střetnutí Čechů a Němců lze objektivizovat německé politické a nacionální hnutí „československých“ Němců, které bylo v poválečném období často stigmatizováno.

Abstract:

The German irredentist movement in the territory of former Czechoslovakia has always been a rather marginal topic of historical publications. The majority of current publications is concerned with the last phase of Sudeten-based irredentism, namely the German national movement during the first Czechoslovak Republic, the German Empire and shortly after WWII. This article focuses on the German national emancipation in the Czech lands from 1848 to 1918. This period culminated in establishing the German nation-state within the Monarchy that also included four administrative provinces on the territory of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia as its parts in the fall of 1918. The introductory chapters deal with the national movement in the Czech lands from 1848 to WWI. More detail is given to the period of German irredentism since the split-up of Austria-Hungary, the emergence of German lands of Deutschböhmen and Sudetenland until their occupation by the Czechoslovak army. The example of a nationalistic conflict between the Czechs and Germans can be used to objectify German political and nationalist movement of “Czechoslovak” Germans that was often stigmatized in the post-war era. During the work on this topic several obstacles emerged, first and foremost being the gaps in archive information, and further, its interpretation that would emphasize objectivity in approaching such a politically and historically complex and hurried period. Aims of this article follow from the above-stated facts. It is necessary to revise the material both in archives and in publications which as of yet has not been compiled in its entirety. The revision should result in: critically reviewing territorial and political claims of both nations – the Czechs and Austrian Germans, who strived for national emancipation in the territory of the Czech lands; comparing attitudes of the Czechs and Germans to national territory; evaluating the justification of conflicting territorial claims; the extent of workability of Germany-Austrian territorial claim in case unification with Germany obtains or does not; assessing the correctness in delineating the state borders of German Austria by Germany; assessing alternatives in territorial dispute between German Austria and Czechoslovakia over the Sudeten regions; and assessing the consequences of unsuccessful German irredentism in the Czech lands.
