Works of Bioart in the context of the festival Ars Electronica

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je na základě definování bioartu a uměleckých děl spadajících do této oblasti umění- vymezit projekty týkající se bioartu, které byly představeny v rámci festivalu Ars Electronica v Linzi. V první, teoretické části této práce definuji a vymezuji pojem „bioart“ a představuji jednotlivé větve. Dále se zabývám seznámením s Ars Electronikou, jenž demonstruje nejnovější vývoj současného umění. Další kapitoly této práce se věnují jednotlivým ročníkům a konkrétním projektům, které na nich byli představeny v rámci Bioartu. Kladu si otázku, které konkrétní projekty využívají živá média a jak s nimi pracují. Pomocí mapování a analýzy těchto jednotlivých děl budu zjišťovat, čím jsou inovativní a jakým způsobem reflektují současné biotechnologie. Tímto by práce měla přispět do bioartové reflexe v galerijním kontextu, resp. zkoumat prezentování těchto děl v rámci světové výstavy nových médií. Hlavním zdrojem informací, z kterého budu, čerpat jsou festivalové katalogy ať už v tištěné či elektronické podobě a oficiální stránky Ars Electroniky.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is on the base of definition of bioart and works of art belonging to this field- to determine projects connected with Bioart , which were presented at the Ars Electronica festival in Linz. In the first, theoretical part of this work I determine and define the term " bioart " and represent each branch of it. Next, I deal with introducing to Ars Electronica , which demonstrates the latest developments in contemporary art. Other chapters are devoted to individual years and specific projects that were presented there in the framework of Bioart. I ask questions, which specific projects use live media and how they work with them. By mapping and analyzing these various works I'll find out how they are innovative and how they reflect current biotechnology. This work should contribute to reflection of bioart in a gallery context, respectively examine the presentation of these works at the world exhibition of new media. The main source of information from which I will draw on are the festival catalogs, whether printed or electronic form and official website of Ars Electronica .
