The Persecution of the Franciscan order in 1948-1989 a its impact on their actual life

Abstract:

Práce si klade za cíl popsat dopad politických událostí mezi lety 1948 - 1989 na život řeholního řádu františkánů a shrnout, jak je toto období promítlo do současného života bratří. Františkánský řád nemohl během této doby oficiálně působit. Nesměl přijímat novice, účastnit se bohoslužeb, světit klérus. Proto vyvíjel aktivní činnost v rámci takzvané podzemní církve. Bratři a setry žili v malých komunitách po celém Československu, věnovali se převážně duchovní činnosti a práci. Ačkoliv se tehdejší komunistické vedení snažilo řády zlikvidovat už v padesátých letech, první útok na františkánskou komunitu přišel až v roce 1983. V práci se snažím objasnit, proč se tehdejší politika zaměřila na likvidaci řádů a proč zasáhla proti františkánům až v osmdesátých letech. Závěr práce se věnuje současnému životu řádu. Jak probíhá přijetí, noviciát, slavné sliby. Jakým zůsobem bratři tráví den, jaké mají povinnosti a jestli je o tuto řeholi ještě zájem.

Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to describe the impact of politics in Czechoslovakia in years 1948-1989 on life of regular Franciscan order and to summarize how this period affected the nowadays life of friars. Franciscan order could not act in an official way in this period. They couldn´t accept any novices, couldn´t take part in divine services or sanctify the clergy. Therefore, they were active within so called “underground church“. Brothers and sisters lived in small communities all around Czechoslovakia and they devoted themselves mainly to spiritual activities. Although the communist administration was trying to crush the ecclesiastic orders back in fifties, the first strike on Franciscan community came as far as in 1983. In my work I tried to clarify why was the communist policy aimed at elimination of ecclestic orders and why did they hit Franciscans as far as in the eighties. The closure of this work describes the present life of Franciscan order – what is the process of induction like, novitiate, Grand promises. In what way do the friars spend their days, what are their duties and also whether people are interested in holy rules like this.
