Accession of Croatia to the European Union

Abstract:

This master's thesis is focused on analysis of Croatia's major economic problems at the time of it's accession to the EU. The main goal is identification of the causes of these problems, their reflection into macroeconomics aggregates and finding solutions of these problems. At the beginning of this thesis a brief description of Croatia's accession is specified. The second part of this thesis is focused on problems arising from the structure of the Croatian's economy, on major problems in the area of fiscal politics and their reflection into macroeconomics indicators. The last part of this thesis is the analysis of the advatages and disadvatages of Croatian's accession to the EU and recommendations for Croatian's economy. The result of this thesis indicated that the country has not yet realized the necessary structural reforms, that can improve the economic situation. So another country, which is facing serious economic difficulties, joined EU.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou najväčších ekonomických problémov Chorvátska v čase jeho vstupu do EÚ. Jej cieľom je pomenovanie príčin týchto problémov, ich premietnutie sa do makroekonomických agregátov a nájdenie možností riešenia týchto problémov. Práca sa začína stručným opisom cesty Chorvátska do EÚ. Ďalej sa zaoberá problémami vyplývajúcimi zo štruktúry chorvátskej ekonomiky, najväčšími problémami v oblasti fiškálnej politiky a ich odrazom v makroekonomických ukazovateľoch. V poslednej časti je analýza výhod a nevýhod plynúcich zo vstupu krajiny do EÚ a doporučení pre hospodársku politiku. Z výsledkov práce vyplýva, že krajina doteraz neuskutočnila potrebné štrukturálne reformy, ktoré by viedli k zlepšeniu ekonomickej situácie. Do EÚ tak vstúpila ďalšia krajina, ktorá sa potýka s veľkými hospodárskymi ťažkosťami.
