Benchmarking of Avast Software s.r.o.’s financial performance before and after the acquisition

Abstract:

Jednou z největší akvizic v Česku během posledních pěti let byla akvizice skupiny AVG Technologies firmou Avast Software s.r.o. v roce 2016. Cílem této práce je zhodnocení dopadů akvizice firmy AVG Technologies na finanční výkonnost podniku Avast Software s.r.o. pomocí benchmarkingu finančních ukazatelů před a po uskutečnění této akvizice. Benchmarking je proveden v letech 2014-2018 metodou INFA. Výzkumná otázka je, zda ekonomický zisk podniku Avast Software s.r.o. po akvizici AVG Technologies je vyšší než před tím. Metodologická část obsahuje vymezení hlavních pojmů daného tématu a jejich podstaty. Praktická část zahrnuje pohled na vznik ekonomického zisku Avast Software s.r.o. v jednotlivých letech a je zaměřená na srovnání vývoje finančních ukazatelů podniku s jejich vývojem v příslušném odvětví dle CZ-NACE. Do praktické části je rovněž zahrnuto srovnání vybraných položek firem Avast Software a AVG Technologies. V závěru jsou vyhodnoceny výsledky provedené analýzy, zodpovězena výzkumná otázka a navrženy doporučení pro zlepšení finanční situace Avast Software s.r.o. v budoucnu.

Abstract:

One of the largest acquisitions in the Czech Republic in the last five years was the acquisition of AVG Technologies group by Avast Software s.r.o. in 2016. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of the acquisition of AVG Technologies on the financial performance of Avast Software s.r.o. via benchmarking its financial indicators before and after this acquisition. Benchmarking is performed within the years 2014-2018 using INFA method. The main research question is whether the Economic Value Added of Avast Software s.r.o. after the acquisition of AVG Technologies is higher than before that. The methodological part contains the definition of the main concepts of the topic and their essence. The practical part includes a look at the emergence of Economic Value Added of Avast Software s.r.o. in individual years and is focused on comparing the development of financial indicators of the company with their development in the relevant sector according to CZ-NACE. The practical part also includes a comparison of selected items of Avast Software and AVG Technologies. In the conclusion the results of the analysis are evaluated,the research question is answered and recommendations for improving the financial situation of Avast Software s.r.o. in the future are proposed.
