Emigration of Ruthenians to the USA at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as part of a collective identity

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor's thesis "Emigration of Ruthenians to the USA at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as part of a collective identity " is the phenomenon of emigration to America and the circumstances associated with the departure of Ru-thenians from the Highlands and Subcarpathian Ruthenia. The work focuses on every aspect of the lives of Ruthenian immigrants who left for the "new world" mainly dur-ing the first wave of emigration at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the same time, it describes the process by which the Ruthenians finally wanted to become a nation from somewhere, with the help of the newly formed Czechoslovak Republic.

Abstract:

Predmetom bakalárskej diplomovej práce ,,Emigrácia Rusínov do Ameriky na prelo-me 19. a 20 storočia ako súčasť kolektívnej identity“ je fenomén vysťahovalectva do Ameriky a okolnosti spojené s odchodom Rusínov z hornouhorských žúp a Podkar-patskej Rusi. Práca sa sústreďuje na každý aspekt života rusínskych imigrantov, ktorí odišli do ,,nového sveta“ prevažne počas prvej vysťahovaleckej vlny a to na prelome 19. a 20. storočia. Zároveň približuje proces, kedy sa Rusíni chceli stať konečne náro-dom odniekiaľ a to za pomoci novovzniknutej Československej republiky.
