From Patronage to Crowdfunding: Donorship in European Cultural Hubs of 14th and 17th Century as a Predecessor of Crowdfunding

Abstract:

Does it pose a challenge for us to confront renaissance musical patronage with music sponsorship of the modern world? What was characteristic of aristocratic patronage and what exactly is crowdfunding sponsorship today? The thesis „From Patronage to Crowdfunding: Donorship in European Cultural Hubs of 14th and 17th Century as a Predecessor of Crowdfunding“ tries to define mutual correlations, similarities and differences between these two phenomena. Comparative analysis applied to selected sociological aspects is used as the main method of evaluation. Furthermore, the thesis relies on theoretical outputs concerning both aristocratic patronage in Renaissance Europe from 1300 to 1600 and crowdfunding as a phenomenon of the 21st century as well.

Abstract:

Sme schopní postaviť do vzájomnej konfrontácie sponzorskú prax renesančného a súčasného sveta v oblasti hudby? Čím bolo aristokratické mecenášstvo a čím je crowdfundingové sponzorstvo? Predkladaná práca „Od mecenášstva ku crowdfundingu? Hudobné darcovstvo vybraných európskych hudobných centier 14. až 17. storočia ako predchodca crowdfundingu“ si kladie za úlohu vymedziť vzájomné korelácie, podobnosti a diferencie oboch fenoménov. Jej metódou je komparatívna analýza aplikovaná na ich vybrané, problematické spoločenské aspekty. Opiera sa o teoretické výstupy zaoberajúce sa ako šľachtickým mecenášstvom renesančnej Európy približne od roku 1300 do roku 1600, tak crowdfundingom ako fenoménom 21. storočia.
