Interactive approach to storytelling in ELT

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se soustředí na interaktivní přístup k vyprávění příběhů ve výuce Anglického jazyka. Je rozdělená do dvou částí – teoretické a praktické. V teoretické části je vymezen pojem storytelling a poskytnutý obecný přehled přínosů této metody ve výuce. Poté se uvádí interaktivní přístup k vyprávění příběhů a jeho rozbor z hlediska dvou vybraných cílů – výuky slovní zásoby a stimulace motivace, a také z hlediska dvou typů interakce v procesu vyprávění příběhu – interakce mezi studentem a učitelem, a interakce mezi studentem a příběhem. V praktické části se z hlediska daných cílů pozoruje, prověřuje a vyhodnocuje vzorová lekce demonstrující interaktivní přístup k vyprávění příběhů, která byla uskutečněná v jazykové škole.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on interactive approach to storytelling in English language teaching. It is divided into two parts – the theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, the concept of storytelling is specified and a general overview of the benefits of the method in teaching is provided. Furthermore, the interactive approach to storytelling is introduced and analyzed in terms of two selected objectives – teaching vocabulary and stimulation of motivation, as well as of two types of interaction in the process of storytelling – the interaction between the student and the teacher, and the interaction between the student and the story. In the practical part, the sample lesson executed in a language school demonstrating this approach is observed, examined and evaluated regarding the aims.
