On the History of Sacral Objects and Pilgrimage Sites in the Territory of the Diocese of Pilsen.

Abstract:

Motivem předkládané práce je snaha autora seznámit jejího čtenáře s významnou, leč mnohdy opomíjenou tematikou poutnictví, která již od dávných dob bývala poměrně důležitou součástí tradic udržovaných nejen při katolické církvi. Tohoto cíle se snaží dosáhnout hned dvěma způsoby, které na první dojem mohou působit mírným protikladem. Činí tak zprvu prostřednictvím roviny obecné charakteristiky, kterou posléze v nejstěžejnější části práce nahrazuje rovinou konkrétní. V rámci tohoto druhotně zmíněného způsobu se zaměřuje na konkrétní místa, která se nalézají na jím vybraném území plzeňské diecéze a která byla v minulosti poutnictvím ovlivněna. Propojením těchto dvou úhlů pohledu tak předkládá ucelený pohled na celou tuto problematiku. V rámci prvních tří kapitol se autor jmenovitě zaměřuje na tematiku poutnictví výhradně z hlediska jejího vývoje, účastníků a významu pro křesťanskou obec. Důraz nadále klade i k jeho vlivu na sociokulturní složku nebo také k samotné motivaci poutníků a výsledků, po kterých chtěli vykonáním pouti dosáhnout. V druhé části textu se autor zaměřuje na konkrétní lokality, které jsou vzhledem k tradovaným a významným událostem považovány za poutní místa. U těchto jednotlivých lokalit se vyjma jejich historického a architektonického vývoje zaobírá i jejich provázaností s poutnictvím. Důraz klade jednak na příčiny, které stály za vznikem mnohdy staletí trvajících poutních tradic, a jednak na jejich kontinuitu v současnosti.

Abstract:

The main objective of the presented thesis is to introduce the reader to a significant, but often forgotten, topic of pilgrimage which represents one of the long and relatively important traditions upheld, among others, within the Catholic Church. The two primary approaches aiming to fulfil the objective may seem contradictory at first, but they are, in fact, interconnected. The first approach provides general characteristics which are later complemented by the most significant part of this thesis, i.e. the specific findings. This second approach focuses on specific sites influenced by the tradition of pilgrimage, located in the Diocese of Pilsen area. By combining these two approaches, the thesis represents a comprehensive piece of work discussing the topic of pilgrimage. The first three chapters of the thesis describe pilgrimage solely in terms of its development, pilgrims themselves and its importance within the Christian society. The chapters also highlight the influence pilgrimage has concerning the socio-cultural aspects, motivation to start the journey or expectations regarding its completion. The second part of the thesis focuses on specific locations which are in light of the alleged and significant circumstances regarded as pilgrimage sites. Apart from the historical and architectural description, each part devoted to a specific site is then concerned with pilgrimage and its influences on the site in question. The thesis emphasizes both the reasons behind the origins of the often centuries-long pilgrimage traditions and their continuity in today's world.
