Abstract:

This thesis aims to portray the first general elections in Great Britain after World War II in the newspaper. Its goal is to introduce the situation in Great Britain during and at the end of World War II, how the situation affected the first general elections, and how the elections were depicted in newspapers. The thesis will first describe the consequences of World War II on Great Britain. It will then introduce the two main political parties involved in the general elections. Finally, it will display newspaper articles that reacted to the surprising results of the elections, in which the Labour Party won by a landslide.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl vyobrazit první volby ve Velké Británii po 2. světové válce. Jejím cílem je představit situaci, ve které se Velká Británie octla během a bezprostředně po 2. světové válce, jak situace ovlivnila první volby a jak byly zobrazeny v novinách. Práce popíše dopady 2. světové války na Velkou Británii. Následně přiblíží hlavní politické strany, které se ve volbách utkaly, a nakonec se také výrazně zaměří na to, jakým způsobem volby reflektoval soudobý tisk a jak reagoval na drtivé vítězství Labouristické strany.
