The Vietnamese Community Living in the Czech Republic in the View of the Majority

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce jsou postoje většinové společnosti vůči Vietnamcům pobývajícím na území České republiky. Teoretická část práce je věnována deskripci základních pojmů souvisejících s tématem, tzn. pohledu na Vietnamce jako na jednu z významných minorit žijící v České republice, historickému vývoji a aktuální podobě vietnamské komunity na zdejším území, problematice postojů a s nimi spojenému riziku vzniku předsudků, které mohou vyústit v tzv. nepřátelskou akci, tématu postojů české veřejnosti k cizincům obecně a konečně významu postojů domácí populace ve vybraných dimenzích procesu sociální integrace minorit. V rámci empirické části práce je popsáno realizované výzkumné šetření zaměřené na zjišťování postojů majority vůči příslušníkům vietnamské menšiny pobývajícím na území České republiky, pro jehož potřeby byla zvolena kvantitativní výzkumná strategie.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor´s thesis is a study of the majority´s attitudes towards the Vietnamese population living in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the basic definitions in connection to the topic, such as: the perception of the Vietnamese as one of the major minorities living in the Czech Republic, the historical development and the current condition of the Vietnamese community in the country, the issue of different attitudes and the risk of a prejudice formation that may lead into hostile reactions. Furthermore, this part deals with the approaches of the Czech people to foreigners in general and finally discusses the importance of the native population´s stances in the chosen dimensions of the social integration process of minorities. The empirical part presents a research that aims to discover the stances of the majority towards the Vietnamese population in the Czech Republic, which was conducted in a quantitative manner.
