Historical monastic libraries in Czech Lands: The library of Benedictine Kladruby monastery

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o situaci bývalých klášterních knihoven, speciálně o historii knihovny v benediktinského kláštera v Kladrubech u Stříbra. Mapuje obecnou historii kladrubského kláštera spolu s jeho archeologickými výzkumy a využití kláštera v současnosti. Dále se zabývá historií vzniku knihy a dějinami klášterních knihoven. Především jsou zde uvedeny poznatky o původní klášterní benediktinské knihovně zrušené za josefínských reforem spolu a knihovně rodu Windischgrätzů, která nastoupila na její místo a dochovala se do dnešní doby. Své místo zde mají také informace o životě zdejších benediktinských mnichů a jejich řádu.

Abstract:

This thesis is about the situation of former monastery libraries, especially about the history of the library in the benedictine monastery Kladruby near Stribro. In the beginning of thesis is generally described the history of the monastery in Kladruby with archeologic research and current use of monastery Kladruby. The next part of the thesis is about the history of formation book and about the history of monastery libraries. Primarily, there are described findings of the original monastery library which has been decommission during the josefin´s reforms together with the library of the family Windischgrätz which replaced the former library Kladruby. The library of family Windischgrätz is preserved and everyone can visit it. At this library has the own place also information about the life of former benedictine monks and his orders.
