Illicit Drug Market and Social and Economic Consequences of Its Existence

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá nelegálním trhem s drogami, aktéry na něm působícími a dopady jeho existence. Za pomoci analýzy socioekonomických důsledků státní intervence na tomto trhu a jejich porovnáním s možnými dopady legalizace je konstatována vhodnost prohibičních politik. Z výsledků této analýzy vyplývá, že nejefektivnějším řešením je legalizace a následná regulace cen, jejímž cílem je zamezení skokovému nárůstu počtu uživatelů drog.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on illegal drug market, its subjects, and consequences of its existence. Through analyzing social and economic impacts of state interventionism on the drug market and comparison with possible effects of legalization, the suitability of these policies is discussed. The results of this analysis show that the most effective solution is the legalization with a price regulation which aims to prevent sudden increase in the number of drug users.
