The participative approach in low-treshold facilities for children and the youth

Abstract:

Diploma thesis deals with the application of participative approach within the conditions of street-based low-threshold clubs for non-organised youth. It defines a set of conditions and asks about the way they contribute to or limit the application of participative approach within a chosen “youth club”. Participative approach is mostly displayed in including the “clients” of social services in the decision-making about the service itself. To include clients into decision-making is way of empowering them, building up their inner consciousness of one´s competency and making them gradually more and more responsible for themselves. A street-based low-threshold club for non-organised youth is a specific type of social service focusing on the goals of social prevention. It is unique for emphasizing the low requirements put on clients, using the relationship between social worker and client as means to including the clients in decision-making about the activities provided within the social service. A case study of a chosen youth club is supposed to show how conditions, namely the Code of Ethics, the founder and type of organisation, the structure of the employees, the clients, the environment and the interventions and activities provided, influence the application of participatory approach.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca si kladie za cieľ objasniť, ako môžu špecifické podmienky nízkoprahového zariadenia pre deti a mládež ovplyvňovať uplatňovanie participatívneho prístupu v tomto type sociálnej služby. Participatívny prístup spočíva hlavne v zapájaní klientov do rozhodovania o sociálnych službách, ktoré využívajú. Je jedným z nástrojov zmocnenia klienta, budovania jeho osobnej kompetentnosti a postupného zvyšovania samostatnosti. Nízkoprahové zariadenie pre deti a mládež je službou sociálnej prevencie. Prístup tejto služby je špecifický nízkymi nárokmi na klienta, dôrazom na vzťah sociálneho pracovník a klienta a deklaráciou práva klientov na zasahovanie do aktivít a programov, ktoré služba ponúka. Prostredníctvom prípadovej štúdie konkrétneho NZDM chce práca odhaliť, ako môžu uplatňovanie participatívneho prístupu ovplyvňovať tieto konkrétne podmienky: etický kódex, zriaďovateľ a právny štatút organizácie, štruktúra zamestnancov, klienti, prostredie a poskytované intervencie a aktivity.
