Representation of Religion in Contemporary Czech TV Broadcasting

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Reprezentace religiozity v českých televizích“ analyzuje čtyři cyklické nábožensky zaměřené pořady v českých televizích. Výsledky této analýzy interpretuje jako dvojí formu reprezentace religiozity ve vysílání: v případě veřejnoprávní České televize a komunitní TV Noe jde o explicitně náboženské pořady, v případě ostatních privátních stanic o pořady náboženské implicitně. Soukromé stanice s výjimkou TV Noe chápou náboženské pořady jako zábavní a zaměřují se v nich na profit na základě poskytování služeb, Česká televize chápe svoji funkci převážně jako vzdělávací a podává výklad, TV Noe má funkci evangelizační. Práce popisuje konkrétní formy religiozity ve sledovaných pořadech, a to v „tradičním“ chápání pojmu náboženství u TV Noe a České televize a ve formě alternativní religiozity u komerčních televizí. Práce se nejen snaží výsledky interpretovat, ale nalézt i odpověď, proč tomu tak je.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis „Representation of Religion in Contemporary Czech TV Broadcasting“ aims to analyze four periodic religious programmes in the czech television broadcasting. Results of the analyses are interpreted as the dichotomy in forms of religiosity representation in the broadcasting: in the case of the public service institution (Czech television) and the community oriented television (TV Noe) the religiosity is represented explicitly, in the commercial media implicitly. The profit-oriented broadcasters understand the religious programmes as entertaining shows, Czech television aims to educate and provides explanation, TV Noe is evangelistic. The thesis describes particular forms of religiosity in the broadcasting, focusing on the „traditional“ interpretation of the religion in the case of the Czech television and TV Noe and the alternative religiosity presented in the shows of the profit-oriented broadcasters. The goal of the thesis is to provide interpretation of the causes of this dichotomy.
