The reflection of the French authors in the essayistic creation of Milan Kundera (the way of Kundera to perceive the European novel)

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the essayistic creation of Milan Kundera, which this Czech-French writer has been developing consistently and systematically since the sixties of the 20th century. In this work, we intend to support the opinion that Kundera’s essays represent a sophisticated project of the European novel, the objective of which is to interpret the history and the mission of the most prestigious contemporary epic genre from the position of the novelist-practitioner. We will attempt to mediate the main ideas and principles of Kundera’s project with a particular regard to the French writers, i.e. we will primarily concentrate on the names and works which are crucial and essential for the concept in question and to which Kundera continually returns. Furthermore, we will try to put this project of Kundera into the context of the renowned theories of the novel (Mikhail Bakhtin, Georg Lukács).

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce soustředí pozornost na esejistickou tvorbu Milana Kundery, kterou tento česko-francouzský spisovatel konzistentně a systematicky rozvíjí již od 60. let 20. století. V následující práci hodláme doložit stanovisko, že Kunderova esejistika představuje propracovaný projekt evropského románu, který má za cíl, z pozice romanopisce-praktika, vyložit dějiny a poslání nejprestižnějšího soudobého epického žánru. Pokusíme se zprostředkovat hlavní myšlenky a principy Kunderova projektu, a to se zvláštním zřetelem k francouzským spisovatelům, tzn., že se budeme soustředit především na jména a díla, která jsou pro danou koncepci klíčová a zásadní, a k nimž se Kundera neustále vrací. Navíc se pokusíme zařadit tento Kunderův projekt do kontextu renomovaných teorií románu (Michail Bachtin, György Lukács).
