Analysis of the Demand for Green Hotels in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou poptávky po ekologickém hotelnictví v České republice. Pozornost je zaměřena na využívání ekologických principů v provozu ubytovacích zařízení a také na sklon k ekologii v běžném životě respondentů. Primárním cílem práce je analyzovat cílový segment návštěvníků ekologických hotelů a podnítit zájem široké veřejnosti o ekologické hotelnictví. S tím souvisí návrhy opatření pro zvýšení konkurenceschopnosti těchto ubytovacích zařízení. Na začátku práce je popsán udržitelný cestovní ruch spolu s dalšími důležitými pojmy jako je ekologický hotel a green management s jeho fázemi. Pro uvedení do problematiky jsou představeny základní prvky ekologických hotelů, environmentální manažerské systémy, základní ekologické certifikace a v neposlední řadě zelený marketing spolu se základními zákaznickými skupinami. V úvodu analytické části je představena aktuální situace ekologického hotelnictví ve světě a v České republice. Pro zjištění stavu poptávky po ekologických hotelech byly provedeny expertní rozhovory s představiteli 2 certifikovaných a 3 necertifikovaných hotelů. Spolu s tím byla provedena deskriptivní analýza nabídky těchto hotelů na základě sekundárních dat. Z rozhovorů vyplynulo, že provozovatelé v ekologické certifikaci vidí primárně snížení nákladů. Nemyslí si, že by jim certifikace rapidně zvýšila poptávku po ubytování. Ekologická certifikace nebo pouze zavedené ekologické principy do provozu jsou podle nich pro hosty přidaná hodnota, ale rozhodující faktor je to pro velmi úzkou skupinu zákazníků. Analýza poptávky byla provedena také v dotazníkovém šetření. Součástí průzkumu bylo zjistit jaký je vztah k ekologii v běžném životě respondentů. Ze získaných dat vyplynulo, že téma ekologického hotelnictví je známé polovině dotazovaných a většina je také ochotná si za tento typ ubytovacího zařízení připlatit. Největší zájem o tuto problematiku projevují ženy. Návštěvníci a zájemci ekologických hotelů volí nejčastěji rezervaci přes online cestovní kanceláře. V poslední návrhové části jsou na základě zjištěných informací představeny autorovy návrhy pro zvýšení povědomí o ekologickém hotelnictví a tím i jeho konkurenceschopnosti.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the analysis for ecological hotels in the Czech Republic. The thesis is focused on the usage of ecological principles in the accommodation facilities and the inclination to ecology of the respondents in their everyday life. The primary objective of the thesis is to analyze the segment of visitors of ecological hotels and to stimulate interest of the general public in ecological hotels. The suggestions how to improve competitiveness of these facilities are connected to that. At the beginning there is a description of sustainable tourism and other important concepts such as ecological hotel and green management with its phases. After the introduction into the issue, the basic elements of the ecological hotels, the environmental management systems, the basic ecological certifications and last but not least the green marketing with the basic customer groups are introduced. At the beginning of the analytical part the current states of the ecological hotels in the world and in the Czech Republic are introduced. To determine the current state of inquiry for ecological hotels the expert interviews were conducted with the representatives of 2 certified and 3 non-certified hotels. Also, a descriptive analysis of the offer of these hotels based on secondary data was conducted. The interviews shown that the operators mainly see cost reduction in the ecological certification. They don't think that the certification would increase the inquiry for accommodation. Ecological certification or at least using ecological principles in the operation is according to the operators only added value for customers, but it is a main factor for only a very small group of customers. The analysis of the inquiry was also conducted in the surveys. The part of the research was also to determine the attitude towards ecology in the everyday life of the respondents. The collected data shown that the topic of ecological hotels is known by half of the respondents and most of the is also willing to pay extra for this type of accommodation facility. The women shown the greatest interest in this topic. The visitors and people who are interested in the ecological hotels are mostly choose to make a reservation through an online travel agency. In the design part are suggestions of the author based on the gathered data how to increase the awareness about ecological hotels and their competitiveness.
