Telomery většiny eukaryotických organismů jsou udržovány pomocí specializovaného enzymu telomerázy. Aktivita telomerázy je závislá na expresi dvou klíčových komponent telomerázového komplexu - proteinové podjednotky (TERT, telomerase reverse transcriptase) a RNA podjednotky (TR). Telomeres of most eukaryotes are maintained by a specialized enzyme - telomerase. The activity of telomerase is dependent no expression of two essential moieties of the telomerase complex - telomerase reverse transcriptase protein subunit (TERT) and telomerase RNA (TR) subunit.
