Pyrite framboids as a proxy for reconstruction of redox conditions during deposition of the Líšeň Formation (Devonian, Carboniferous; the Moravian Karst)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na framboidy pyritu a jejich užití coby proxy redoxních podmínek při ukládání sedimentů líšeňského souvrství v Moravském krasu. Hlavním cílem byla indikace redoxních podmínek. Praktická část byla postavena na studiu framboidů pyritu v elektronovém mikroskopu z leštěných výbrusů vápenců a břidlic líšeňského souvrství, které byly odebrány ze čtyř profilů Moravského krasu. Jednalo se o profil u Ochozi, kde byl studován úsek se zachovaným annulata eventem, a v Lesním lomu a lomu Mokrá, kde byl studován především úsek hranice devon-karbon i střední famen. Výsledkem práce je rekonstrukce změn redoxních podmínek, především na hranici devon/karbon, která byla spojena s hangenberskou biotickou krizí. Zjištěné údaje byly následně porovnány s publikovanými i nepublikovanými geochemickými daty. V mnoha případech byly interpretace založené na framboidech pyritu v souladu s geochemickými interpretacemi a v několika případech došlo k jejich upřesnění. Několik intrepretací redoxních podmínek z framboidů pyritu se mírně lišilo od interpretací geochemických, ať už kvůli rozdílné klasifikaci nebo povaze použitých metod.

Abstract:

The master thesis is focused on pyrite framboids and their application as a proxy of redox contiditions during deposition of sediments of the Líšeň Formation in the Moravian Karst. The aim of this thesis is the indication of redox conditions. The practical part was based on study of pyrite framboids by an electron microscopy from polished thin sections of limestones and black shales of the Líšeň Formation which were taken from four sections of the Moravian Karst. The studied localities involved the Ochoz section, where the bed with well-preserved annulata event was studied and Lesní lom Quarry and Mokrá Quarry, where the section of the Devonnian-Carboniferous boundary and middle Famennian were studied. The result of this thesis is the reconstruction of changes in redox conditions, especially at the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary which was associated with the Hangenberg biotic crisis. The obtained data were compared with published and unpublished geochemical data. In many cases, interpretations based on pyrite framboids corresponded with geochemical interpretations, and in several cases, they were specified. Several interpretations of redox conditions based on pyrite framboids differed slightly from geochemical interpretations, either due to different classifications or due to the character of methods used.
