Dream in the Work of Haruki Murakami

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zaměřuje na motiv snu a snovosti v díle současného japonského spisovatele Haruki Murakamiho. Práce nejprve pojednává o postupném vývoji Murakamiho díla z hlediska výběru témat, inspiračních vlivů, proměn jeho poetiky a role, jakou v jeho příbězích hraje sen a snovost. První část diplomové práce také naznačuje jeho směřování do budoucna jakožto spisovatele. Druhá část práce se věnuje podrobné analýze motivu snu v jednotlivých Murakamiho dílech, která byla vydána v českém jazyce do roku 2014, tedy sedmi románech a jedné povídce. Prostřednictvím analýzy Murakamiho děl jsou představeny možné interpretace jak konkrétního díla obecně, tak i motivu snu přítomného v daném díle. Poznatky o motivu snu z rozboru osmi Murakamiho prací jsou nakonec dány do souvislostí v kontextu kompletního Murakamiho prozaického díla, jeho tendenci k experimentu a výběru témat.

Abstract:

This master’s diploma thesis focuses on the motif of dream and dreaminess in the work of a contemporary Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. At first, the thesis discusses the gradual changes in Murakami’s works while paying attention to the choice of topics, inspirational influences, shifts in his poetics and the role dream and dreaminess play in his stories. The first part of the thesis also indicates Murakami‘s future heading as a writer. The second part of the thesis is devoted to a detailed analysis of the dream motif in the Murakami’s works which were published in Czech language until 2014, that means seven novels and one short story. By means of the analysis of Murakami‘s works, possible interpretations both of the particular literary work in general and of the dream motif in the particular literary work are presented. Finally, findings on the dream motif resulting from the analysis of eight Murakami’s works are related with each other in context of complete Murakami’s prose, his tendency to experiment and his choice of topics.
