Military cooperation of the V4 countries: The case of V4 Battle Group

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the development of the military cooperation between the countries of the Visegrad Group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and their current plan to form the first Visegrad Battle Group, which will be provided for the needs of the EU in 2016. It analyzes the extent to which the V4 Battle Group will fullfil the current trend in the EU - Pooling and Sharing of military capabilities. The thesis also focuses on the importance of the V4 Battle Group in terms of the future deepening of military cooperation, as well as the preconditions of the V4 countries, which may lead to the establishment of a closer subregional military cooperation. The aim of the thesis is to answer the research questions, which are: Can we consider the V4 Battle Group as a platform for the introduction of the concept of Pooling and Sharing into practice in the Visegrad subregion? Is it possible to predict the impact of the V4 Battle Group formation on the future military cooperation among the V4 countries? What preconditions do the Visegrad countries have for the establishment of a closer subregional military cooperation?

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá vývojom vojenskej spolupráce medzi štátmi Vyšehradskej skupiny (Česká republika, Maďarsko, Poľsko a Slovensko) a ich súčasným plánom vybudovať historicky prvý Vyšehradský Battle Group, ktorý bude poskytnutý pre účely EÚ v roku 2016. Analyzuje mieru, do akej V4 Battle Group naplní súčasný trend EÚ - Pooling & Sharing vojenských spôsobilostí. Práca sa zároveň zameriava na význam V4 Battle Group z hľadiska možnosti prehĺbenia vojenskej spolupráce, ako aj na predpoklady štátov V4, ktoré môžu viesť k nastoleniu ešte bližšej subregionálnej vojenskej spolupráce. Cieľom práce je zodpovedať na výskumné otázky, ktoré znejú: Môžeme V4 Battle Group považovať za platformou pre uvedenie konceptu Pooling & Sharing do praxe vo Vyšehradskom subregióne? Dá sa predvídať aký vplyv bude mať vytvorenie V4 Battle Group na ďalšiu vojenskú spoluprácu krajín V4? Aké predpoklady majú Vyšehradské štáty pre nastolenie bližšej subregionálnej vojenskej spolupráce?
