Testing the success of technical analysis on the currency pair EUR/USD

Abstract:

Cílem práce je sestavit úspěšnou obchodní strategii, kterou by bylo možné použít na mezinárodním devizovém trhu Forex. Splnění daného cíle je spojeno s vysvětlením základních pojmů ohledně obchodování na daném trhu, dále je uveden úvod do technické analýzy a vysvětlení jednotlivých indikátorů, na nichž je daná obchodní strategie založená. Praktická část obsahuje sestavení obchodní strategie a její otestování na reálných historických datech. Následně je provedená analýza obchodů a vylepšení dané strategie, která je následně otestována. K porovnání jsou uvedeny i výsledky testování na odlišném testovacím období. Na něm je otestována i vylepšená strategie, při které posoudíme, zda je univerzální a zda byla účinná i mimo zaměřené období. Hlavním přínosem této práce je podrobný návod k sestavení obchodní strategie, použití jednotlivých indikátorů a provedení analýzy dosažených výsledků. Také je posuzováno, zda je technická analýza za určité situace vhodná k použití a k odhalení vývoje měnového kurzu.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to build a successful trading strategy, which can be used on the foreign exchange market Forex. To fulfil this target, there are explanations of the basic terms involved in trading on the particular market. Then there is an introduction to the technical analysis and the explanation of its indicators, which the trading strategy is based on. The practical part deals with the compiling of the trading strategy and its testing on real historical data. Then the analysis of results and its improving is made. To compare the results, there is a test of strategy in a different testing period. Therefore the improved strategy is tested and can be evaluated if it is universal and efficient also in other periods. The main contribution of this work is a detailed description, how to build a trading strategy by using each indicator and making analysis of gained results. It is also judged, if the technical analysis is suitable for being used under particular circumstances and could be used for forecasting of exchange rate.
