Adaptations by Vladimír Körner in a Contemporary Context

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá pojetím Vladimíra Körnera jako adaptátora, který mnoho svých děl adaptoval buď do knižní nebo do filmové podoby. Tato problematika je tematizována v souvislosti s procesem československé filmové produkce 60. a 70. let a se soudobým politickým režimem. Cílem je pojmout tvorbu a adaptace Vladimíra Körnera v kontextu, především pak v souvislosti s tehdejším komunistickým politickým režimem, a v neposlední řadě jeho adaptace vystihnout jako samotný tvůrčí proces, ve kterém se projevují autorovy záměry a proměny z původní předlohy, ať už jím samým nebo dané vnějšími činiteli. Tyto praktiky jsou aplikovány na dvě vybraná díla Adelheid a Údolí včel, neboť ve velmi krátkém časovém rozestupu mezi jejich vznikem můžeme sledovat dva obrácené typy adaptačního procesu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the concept of Vladimír Körner as an adapter, who adapted many of his works either into book or film form. This topic is thematized in connection with the process of Czechoslovak film production in the 1960s and 1970s and the political regime at that time. The goal is primarily to understand the work and adaptations of Vladimír Körner in context, especially in relation to the then-communist political regime. Secondly to capture his adaptations as a creative process in which the author's intentions and changes from the original source, whether by himself or external factors, are expressed. These practices are applied to two selected works, Adelheid and The Valley of the Bees. In a very short time span between their creation, we can observe two contrasting courses of the adaptation process.
