The Cuban Missile Crisis from US perspective

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá Karibskou raketovou krizí v roce 1962 z pohledu USA a administrativy prezidenta Johna F.Kennedyho. Práce se zaměřuje na podrobnou analýzu klíčových událostí, rozhodovacích procesů a strategií, které USA přijaly v reakci na odhalení sovětských raketových základen na Kubě. Krize, považována za jeden z nejnapjatějších okamžiků studené války ukázala, jak blízko může svět přijít k jadernému konfliktu a jak důležité jsou diplomatické schopnosti v řízení mezinárodních krizí. Analyzuje, jak vnímání hrozeb, komunikace a zahraničněpolitická strategie Kennedyho administrativy ovlivnily rozhodnutí USA a vedly k mírovému řešení krize.Výsledky ukazují, že kombinace odhodlaného vojenského postavení ochoty k diplomatickému jednání byla klíčová pro úspěšné řešení krize a zabránění jaderné válce.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the 1962 Caribbean Missile Crisis from theperspective of the United States and the administration of President John F. Kennedy. The thesis focuses on a detailed analysis of the key events, decision-making processes, and strategies adopted by the U.S. in response to the discovery of Soviet missile bases in Cuba. The crisis, considered one of the most tense moments of the Cold War, showed how close the world an come to nuclear conflict and how important diplomatic skills are in managing international crises. Analyzes how the Kennedy administration's threat perceptions, communications, and foreign policy strategy influenced U.S. decisions and led to a peaceful resolution of the crisis. The results show that a combination of a determined military posture and a willingness to engage in diplomatic negotiations were key to successfully resolving the crisis and avoiding nuclear war.
