Theatre & Weather: Shared Climate of Theatre Performance

Abstract:

V této magisterské diplomové práci se budu zabývat paralelou mezi divadlem a počasím. Pokusím se popsat, čemu lze říkat podnebí divadelního představení a jak by to mohlo obohatit naše nahlížení divadla. Budu to zkoumat na půdorysu otázky, kde začíná a kde končí divadelní představení. Tuto otázku budeme zkoumat prizmatem jak divadelních představení, tak výtvarného umění, ale rovněž očima meteorologie, biogeografie a informatiky. Nejdříve popíši vymezení času a prostoru divadelního představení ve srovnání s ohraničením odlehlého ostrova. Budu se opírat o příklady z představení Oči v sloup a Pustý ostrov chrání 15.000 obyvatel. Pokusím se nahlížet na ohraničení divadelního představení optikou pohyblivých a propustných hranic. Dále se budu věnovat vztahovým soustavám v rámci divadla, výtvarného umění, zemské atmosféry i digitálního prostředí. Nejdříve popíši výstavu francouzského výtvarného umělce Philippa Parrena v Martin Gropius Bau. S myšlenkami holistického nahlížení světa a efektu motýlích křídel na pozadí budu analyzovat, v čem může být jeho přístup k výstavě jako k médiu přínosný pro divadlo. Na závěr se pokusím nastínit, v čem je pojem hypertext blízký divadlu jako vztahové soustavě. V poslední části budu na ohraničení divadelního představení nahlížet skrze diváka a shrnu, jakým způsobem představení vnímá, podílí se na jeho vzniku a jak se do něj otiskuje a přetrvává v něm. Viditelné a neviditelné hranice představení popíši na příkladu představení NVSBL maďarské choreografky Eszter Salamon. V závěru shrnu styčné plochy divadla a počasí. Formuluji, jak podle mého názoru divadelní představení expanduje mimo představení jako událost. Otiskuje se do diváků i tvůrců a lze jej charakterizovat jako neuzavřený procesuální systém. Po formální stránce si tato diplomová práce klade za cíl tuto procesuálnost otisknout i do formy psaní jako otevřeného systému. V práci uvádím nejen poznámky pod čarou, ale rovněž postranní komentáře, slepé argumentační uličky a přeškrtané části textu.

Abstract:

In this master's thesis I am going to reflect what has theater and the weather in common. I am going to describe idea of a shared climate of a theatrical performance and how this idea could enrich our view of the theater in general. I will examine the question of where the theatrical performance begins and ends. I am going to deal with this question through the prism of both theatrical performances and fine arts, but also through the eyes of meteorology, biogeography and computer science. Firstly, I am going to describe the boundaries of a theatre performance and compare it to the idea of deserted island. As example I am going to use performance Deserted Island with 15.000 inhabitants. In this chapter I am going to introduce the idea of moving and permeable borders. Secondly, I am going to focus on systems and relations between their respective parts. As systems I am going to use theater performace, fine arts exhibition, climate and digital environment. I am going to describe in detail the exhibition of the French contemporary artist Philippe Parreno held in Martin Gropius Bau Museum. With the ideas of a holistic view of the world and butterfly effect in the background, I am going to analyze how his approach to the exhibition as a medium can be useful for the theater. Then, I will try to outline that the term hypertext is close to theater as a relational system. Finally, I am going to focus on a spectator as a medium in which the theatre performance is recorded. The visible and invisible boundaries of a performance are going to be seen through an example of performance NSVBL by Hungarian choreographer Eszter Salamon. In the end, I will summarize the shared aspects of theater and weather. I formulate how, in my opinion, a theatrical performance expands beyond the performance as an event. I believe that theatre performance can be characterize as an open, procedural system of becoming. Formally this master´s thesis represents an attempt to see the form of writing as an open system as well. In my work I present not only footnotes, but also side comments and crossed out parts of the text.
