Specific etiquette problems in the hotel industry

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis, the subject of which is specific problems of etiquette in the hotel industry with a closer focus on Chinese clients, deals with the extent to which foreign clients, specifically Chinese, influence the offer and attitude of selected hotels. The aim of this work is to find out whether the standards concerning Chinese etiquette and their adherence in selected hotels is sufficient. The work proposes specific standards that hotels providing services to Chinese clients should adhere to and take into account. These standards are based on findings from research conducted on the basis of telephone interviews with employees in managerial positions in three different hotels in Prague. At the request of these respondents, specific hotels are not listed and so the answers are anonymous. The result of this work is the finding that the awareness of the surveyed hotels about the differences of Chinese etiquette is at a low level and specific standards are met only at 33.3% and this percentage result is substantiated in the work. The hotel staff does not emphasize the ethical differences of foreign guests, so it is highly likely that they may inadvertently disgrace these guests. In this area, it is especially desirable to place emphasis on the Chinese clientele, which has a significant leading position in the world, and the differences in culture and etiquette are diametrically different from the customs, whether Czech or European.

Bakalárska práca, ktorej predmetom sú špecifické problémy etikety v hotelierstve s bližším zameraním na čínsku klientelu, sa zaoberá mierou, ktorou zahraničná klientela, konkrétne čínska, ovplyvňuje ponuku a postoj vybraných hotelov. Cieľom tejto práce je zistiť, či štandardy týkajúce sa čínskej etikety a ich dodržanie vo vybraných hoteloch je dostatočné. V práci sú navrhnuté konkrétne štandardy, ktoré by mali hotely poskytujúce služby čínskej klientele dodržiavať a zohľadňovať. Tieto štandardy vychádzajú zo zistení vyplývajúcich z výskumu, ktorý bol prevedený na základe telefonických rozhovorov s pracovníkmi na manažérskych pozíciách v troch rôznych hoteloch v Prahe. Na prianie týchto respondentov konkrétne hotely nie sú uvedené a tak sú odpovede anonymné. Výsledkom tejto práce je zistenie, že povedomie skúmaných hotelov o odlišnostiach čínskej etikety je na nízkej úrovni a konkrétne štandardy sú dodržané len na 33,3% a tento percentuálny výsledok je v práci podložený. Hotelový personál nekladie do popredia etické odlišnosti zahraničných hostí a tak je vysoko pravdepodobné, že týchto hostí môžu neúmyselne zneuctiť. V tejto oblasti je obzvlášť žiadúce klásť dôraz práve na čínsku klientelu, ktorá má vo svete výrazné popredné postavenie a zvyklosti v kultúre i v etikete sú diametrálne odlišné od českých alebo i európskych.
