Abstract:

Cílem této práce je přiblížení indicko-britských vztahů a problémů majících vliv na soužití těchto etnik v Británii. Práce mapuje historii těchto vztahů od jejich počátků, které sahají až do 16. století,kdy se Indie stala jednou z ekonomicky nejdůležitějších britských koloniálních bašt. Některé z typických problémů indických imigrantů jsou ilustrovány na životním příběhu britského Inda v novele A Fatal Inversion, kde je tento zástupce druhé generace přistěhovalců konfrontován s názory britské mládeže a jejími předsudky.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to discuss the Indo-British relations and to try to describe various issues of their coexistence in Britain. This work maps the history of the Indo-British relations from the beginning which could be traced back to the sixteenth century when India began to be economically attractive for Britain and thus gradually became one of the main British strongholds. Some of the Indian immigrant’s issues are illustrated in a novel, A Fatal Inversion. In the novel Barbara Vine uses a character of a young British Indian, who is confronted with English youngsters and their cultural prejudices.
